Individual Project

Introduction

Inspired by google Geospatial Creator and Apple Vision Pro, ARbit was created with the goal of revolutionizing how people engage with their environment and connect with others. Many individuals face limitations in terms of time and resources for physical travel. With the continued advancedment of technology and tools like geospatial creator, the objective is to develop an immersive and informative platform that enriches the way people explore and interact with the real world.

User Research

(Participants: 5 interviewees - Ages 21-42)

Before deciding on the feasibility of ARbit, I went back to the beginning — starting with user research. I sat down with 7 users over zoom in order to understand the needs and wants of my target audience. The results from the interview reviewed the following:

Insights

Increasing demand for virtual travel experiences.

Many users expressed the limitations they face when travel such as budget constraints, time restrictions, and safety concerns. They showed increasing interest for exploring new places virtually as technology keeps advancing and have confidence such virtual exploration will gain significant popularity in the near future.

Desire for opportunity to make income.

Users expressed interest to have the opportunity to share their talent and make income off the growing AR trend.

Easy, quick, affordable virtual travel experiences

Users wants an easily accessible, affordable virtual travel experiences.

Persona

Based on findings from the interviews, I created personas to capture the characteristics of my target audience.

Iteration

Sketches, low-fi wireframes, high-fi wireframes, prototypes

I started iterating with the question in mind:

How might we make the platform fun, easy to use and engaging?

Low-Fi Wireframe

After rounds of paper wireframe and prototyping, I transformed my idea to digital wireframe.

Usability Testing

(Participants: 15 interviewees - Ages 21-48)

Unmoderated usability tests was conducted with the high fidelity prototype of ARbit in order to identity pain-points that users may experience as well as discover potential opportunities to improve the design. Their feedback were value and inspired the next wave of iterations!

Accessability

To ensure an inclusive experience for all users, I incorporated the following accessibility features in ARbit:

  • Screen reader: ARbit supports screen readers and provides audio descriptions of visual elements, allowing visually impaired users to navigate and interact with the app effectively.

  • Color Contrast:I carefully considered color choices and made sure the design meets WACG to ensure optimal visibility for users with visual impairments or color blindness.

  • Adjustable Font Sizes: Customizable font sizes makes the content more readable for individuals with visual impairments or those who require larger text sizes.

Prospect

The prospect of ARbit is exciting. With the rapid advancement of technology and the increasing accessibility of tools and platforms, Augmented Reality is on the way to become more sophisticated, immersive, and accessible to a wider audience. This opens up countless possibilities for ARbit and its impact on the way we interact with our environment and each other.
